I find neuroscience fascinating and challenging. The patients make the challenges worthwhile. To paraphrase John F. Kennedy in his speech in September 1962 outlining the goal to land on the moon, "we choose to … do [these] things, not because they are easy, but because they are hard; because that goal will serve to organize and measure the best of our energies and skills". Truly, the human nervous system is "the final frontier". The challenges faced by patients with ALS/MND, Parkinsonism, movement disorders, dementias as well as other neurodegenerative conditions have long been a particular concern of mine and I am looking forward to a fresh, patient-centered approach with Synapticure.
In my free time, I enjoy sailing off of the Carolina coast, reading, and enjoying a number of dogs and cats, a horse and a pig, along with the multitude of wildlife, who reside on a small farm with my wife and me.
